If Only We Had This Kind Of Relief In The Beginning Of The Season

Before this past week, the last time we saw Edwar Ramirez was in a terrible loss against Tampa Bay. Joe Torre had for some reason decided to rest Ramirez for two weeks, then put him in a terrible situation. He couldn’t throw a strike, and when he finally did it went out of the park for a grand slam homerun. He was a bit upset about this and Torre realized he had done the young man wrong.

So Ramirez spent some time in AAA to get his groove back, rejoined the team back and is back in the same form he was before the Devil Rays game. Which is great, because he has good stuff and really adds to the Yankees bullpen. Plus he wears those really awesome/ridiculous goggle-glasses. And he has an underdog story for full effect.

They don’t appear to have fed him much between now and then, however, as he is still even skinnier than I am.

edwar ramirez is very skinny

(Yes, I know this picture is from earlier in the season, but trust me he hasn’t gained any weight.)

So, congratulations on your first Major League save Edwar! I’m sure you’ll soon have tons of MySpace friends leaving encouraging comments.

Speaking of underdog stories, I went and found this article from the Daily News about Joba Chamberlain after they mentioned it on YES today during the game. It’s really nice, recommended reading.
