This…This Is A Bad Idea

Per Pete Abe the Yankees are offering none of their free agents arbitration. I cannot express in words how stupid this is right now but it is really dumb, especially if they still plan on signing multiple Type A free agents.

Good job guys, I can’t wait to see what the team looks like on Opening Day in 2009 at the new 1.6billion dollar baseball paradise.

  1. Any idea of why the Yanks didn’t offer arbitration to Abrue? I know the economy is putting the clamps on some teams but it’s the freakin’ Yankees. With a new stadium opening up, I would have figured that they would be doing quite well with money.

  2. All of MLB has apparently gone insane with arbitration this year. I think it’s in part because of the change to the basic bargaining agreement that allows teams to negotiate even if they don’t offer arbitration for the first time. Bud Selig had some kind of owners meeting where he told people not to spend a lot of money recently, might have something to do with all this as well.

The Yankees don’t want a $200 million payroll which I understand but beyond offering Sabathia an absurd amount, I worry that this means they’ll toss something dumb at AJ Burnett and the 140 innings he’ll pitch a year.
