Yankees ERA vs FIP by Month – August Update

Usual caveats, FIP is flawed but it’s a decent benchmark. Once again, if anyone knows where I can find xFIP or *tRA by team by month I’ll gladly add it but I’ve had no luck so far.

As you can see, the starting pitching staff had a very good month in August. A huge chunk of this was Andy Pettitte and CC Sabathia, of course, but other than his amazing Fenway blowup AJ Burnett was also pretty fantastic.

Relief pitching took a hit but this includes garbage time like “Sergio Mitre just can’t finish this game!” in Boston and the amazing Brian Bruney batter walking exeprience. June has turned out to be an outlier but that was the Mariano/Phil Hughes destroy everyone month. It was also a month in which Phil Coke somehow allowed no homeruns.
