The Yankees are one win away from a World Series championship. This is, for many of us, old hat. And most of us know that three wins doesn’t guarantee a fourth but it does feel pretty good to have taken two in Philadelphia to be up 3-1.
The Phillies decided to give their best starter (that [...]
We’ve Been Here Before, Haven’t We?
Yankees ERA vs FIP by Month – End of Season Update
Once again: FIP is flawed, but until I find tRA/*tRA or xFIP by month it’s what you get as a benchmark next to ERA!
Here’s the final wrap for the season. As you can see, the team took a big hit in September but that’s what happens when you’ve got Joba pitching bad and guys like [...]
Who Ate All The Innings?
This year, 9 different pitchers started for the Yankees. Whoa, that sounds like a lot, right? Well, last year 12 different pitchers got turns starting. Yes there were odd circumstances and all (such as Chien-Ming Wang dying and going to baseball heaven) but last year the team only had two pitchers approach 150 innings and [...]
Looking at AJ Burnett’s Season In Graphical Form
The last in my series looking at the seasons the top three pitchers for the Yankees put together. I’m not doing Joba or the miscellaneous riff-raff (plus Phil “God Please Shave That Thing Off” Hughes) because frankly it’s not worth the time. I may revisit Joba before the inning limiting kicked in, however.
AJ is a [...]
Looking at Andy Pettitte’s Season In Graphical Form
Consider this part 2 in a 3 part series. After AJ’s last start in September (tomorrow) I’ll be doing one of these for him as well. I’m leaving out Joba Chamberlain because of the oddities caused by his innings limits and the mish-mosh of fifth starters isn’t really worth looking at unless you are into [...]
Looking at CC Sabathia’s Season In Graphical Form
I realize CC Sabathia has another turn in the rotation before the ALDS starts (which makes sense–you want to keep him sharp, afterall) but now that he’s pitched his final game in September, it’s a good time to take a look at his season as a whole.
If you go by ERA, CC had two clunker [...]
Mariano Rivera’s Batted Balls By Month
Mariano Rivera’s greatness comes from two things: His great command/control and his ability to induce groundballs.
Well, here’s how he’s been doing so far this year (September/October is through 9/16):
It’s terrifying yet also strangely awesome that his rate of giving up line drives is about equal to that of flyballs.
I broke each month down into pie [...]
Yankees ERA vs FIP by Month – August Update
Usual caveats, FIP is flawed but it’s a decent benchmark. Once again, if anyone knows where I can find xFIP or *tRA by team by month I’ll gladly add it but I’ve had no luck so far.
As you can see, the starting pitching staff had a very good month in August. A huge chunk of [...]
Yankees Team ERA/FIP By Month
August is through the 14th. FIP is limited, I’m going to see if I can find *tRA or xFIP by month and take a look there.
The team is hurt somewhat by walks and homeruns but helped by their very high (best in the AL) strikeout rate.
Ian Snell: Not A 2009 Rotation Candidate
A few days ago, tucked into a small blurb in an article about potential Roy Halladay trades the
Toronto Sun reported that the Yankees have been looking at banished Pirates pitcher Ian Snell.
Yankees may be a third-place team, according to one scout who saw them in Anahiem. They need a starter and are looking at [...]
